London based Double Bassist Alex Ferkey has been working professionally as a freelance musician across the United States and UK since 2013. As an orchestral and chamber musician, Ferkey has given performances throughout North America and Europe.
   Ferkey has also maintained a passion for the double bass as a solo instrument, particularly in platforming works by underrepresented and underperformed composers. An active recitalist, he also aims to deconstruct classical music performance practice by giving
concerts in non-traditional spaces such as bars, cafes, and restaurants, and breaking down the established barriers between the performer and audience in classical music.
   Since 2021, he has also served as Double Bass Tutor at Guildhall’s Centre for Young Musicians. As an educator, Ferkey has developed a pedagogy that focuses on the intersection of music and movement, as well as connecting learning to routine, everyday movements and
experiences.
